Cottesloe to Swanbourne Ocean Classic
Swim Thru
The race is over 2200m from
Cottesloe Beach, starting immediately in front of the Indiana Tearooms /
Cottesloe SLSC Boatshed to Swanbourne Beach, finishing immediately in front of
the Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC Patrol Tower.
The race commences with a water
start in line with pylon at Cottesloe Beach, then swim north to Swanbourne
Beach, around the large swimming buoy and finishes up the beach between the two
red and yellow patrol flags.
A water start involves all entrants lining up in the water and upon the start signal (siren, air horn or verbal command over a loud hailer) start swimming. The water start for the Cottesloe to Swanbourne Ocean Classic Swim Thru is between the pylon at Cottesloe Beach and a buoy or IRB rescue craft located further out to sea.
Entrants will be asked to enter the water approximately 5 minutes before the start. Please proceed to the start line and tread water until the start signal. Fast swimmers with a chance of winning the fastest time prizes should position themselves at the front of the start line. The majority of swimmers who only think they have a chance of winning the fastest time prizes should position themselves at the front of the start line. Slower swimmers who are not concerned with winning prizes should position themselves at the rear of the start line.
Please note that with the large number
of entrants in close proximity to each other in the water start may result
in the clash of elbows, arms or feet. Please give yourself adequate room at
the start line based on your ability and expected time to complete the race.
The Swim Thru finishes up the beach
between the two red and yellow patrol flags. Your time is recorded as you cross
between the two red and yellow patrol flags, not when you leave the water. So
technically the race distance is 2200m of swimming and 10m of walking/running.
Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC provides a
large van and trailer to transport entrants gear from the start line to the finish
line. The van and trailer will be parked immediately in front of the Indiana
Tearooms / Cottesloe SLSC Boatshed between 7am and 8am prior to the start. The
van and trailer will then make its way to in front of the Swanbourne Nedlands
SLSC Clubrooms for the finish of the race. Please do not leave valuables in
your bag. Please clearly write your name and contact details or have a
distinctive bag so you can determine which bag is yours at the finish.
Unfortunately Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC cannot provide transport between the start and
the finish or the finish and the start. If you are swimming with others arrange
to leave one car at the finish and transport your fellow entrants and leave a
second car at the start. If you are by yourself you can walk between Swanbourne
and Cottesloe beaches, either along the beach or the concrete path along Marine
Parade. You will of course be swimming between Cottesloe and Swanbourne
beaches.
