Juniors Area : Nippers & Cadets
Welcome to all the juniors at Swanny Surf Club.
We
are your representatives for the season and will be responsible for all juniors
from 7 to 17 year olds. It’s gonna be a great summer and we look forward
to seeing you all down at our new and improved Swanny surf club. If you have
any questions please get in touch with one of us and we will help you out.

Nippers
Nippers include all the children from the age of 7 to 13 years. At Swanbourne
Nedlands SLSC the emphasis for these Nippers is to have fun and
make friends, while at the same time learning the safety aspects of water
and waves with some basic wave sense. If the kids are confident they are also
encouraged to get involved in Inter-Club Competition, which requires the involvement
of parents.
The Junior Officers conduct all Nipper activities from 9:00am to 10:00am.
The children must wear a shirt and hat and have sunscreen applied before they
can participate in the activities. Parents are always encouraged to be involved,
and the more helpers we get, the better. Most of the activities involve games
in and out of the water's edge with and without foamies (soft
surfboards). Nippers also have a social calendar involving pizza and video
night, a B.B.Q and Christmas lunch and games events. Nippers also gain the
Surf Education Award for their age group as well as being encouraged to gain
other awards such as the Basic Emergency Care and Basic Resuscitation Awards.
If you wish to get involved in Nippers, or you would like to bring your child
down to join in, simply make it along to the beach for the start at 9:00am
every Sunday. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Junior
Officers:

year olds
CADETS
AND JUNIORS
Cadets and Juniors aged 13 to 17 are represented by the Cadet
and Junior
Officer. The aims of this position are to help retain members
coming up from junior levels, to increase the number of members in these age
groups, assist in their transition into senior ranks, and provide training
and equipment specific to their needs.
Through involvement in Sunday morning points races with seniors, introduction
to new equipment (IRB, surf boats, skis, boards etc) as well as training and
competition within their age group, younger members will be inspired to carry
on through to become a senior member of the club. Activities for these members
include Movie Nights, surf skills training, training for specific awards such
as the Surf Rescue Certificate, the Bronze Medallion and Advanced Resuscitation.

Carnivals
Surf
carnivals are a great way for juniors to take part in some friendly Inter-Club
competition as well as have fun, and meet members of other clubs. It's also
a great way to meet other members of your club. We will be encouraging kids
to take part in carnivals, and if they're interested we'll teach them the
necessary skills to take part in carnivals. Because of the range of events
in which you can compete, including relays, flag races and board paddling,
there's something for everyone.

On behalf of
the Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC, we look forward to meeting all juniors down
at the beach this summer!
